#5 iRobot Roomba 410 Intelligent Floorvac Robotic Vacuum Cleaner, Red
Author: admin Category: robotic floorvac#5 Robotic floorvac
This Robotic Floorvac is a great entry level model. It is one of the cheaper automatic vacuums you can buy and still gets the job done. Though it is last on our list it still manages to beat out several other robotic vacuums and is still a good buy. I would recommend the other four vacuums before this one, but if you don’t have much wiggle room on your finances this is still a great model. Even if you have one of the more powerful, expensive robotic vacuums this one is cheap enough that it would make a great second unit. This way you get the job done twice as quick.

Sporting a bold, solid-red exterior, this entry-level robotic floorvac is easy to use and includes an array of convenient features. Simply press the “clean” button and the unit will vacuum the whole floor, adjusting automatically to any floor surface including wood, tile linoleum, and low-to-medium pile carpet. The vacuum’s artificial intelligence determines the room size and adjusts the run time to ensure that it cleans the entire floor. Integrated sensors detect dirt and will increase the focus and intensity of cleaning in that area, while infra-red cliff sensors in the non-marring bumper detect stairs to keep the unit from falling, as well as furniture and walls for cleaning right up to the edge. The high-efficiency vacuum has a wide cleaning path and a three-stage cleaning system, which includes counter-rotating brushes that scoop large debris into the dustbin, plus a vacuum to pick up fine particles, dirt, and pet hair. This unit has one of the highest CPRs (coverage per room) in the industry and can get floors cleaner than conventional upright vacuums with the ability to clean where they can’t, like under beds, couches, and other furniture. Its edge-cleaning spinning sidebrush, combined with wall-following technology, removes dirt and debris from the base of walls, from corners, and other hard-to-reach places. The vacuum’s stasis sensor detects when it’s stuck and employs pre-programmed escape routines to free itself, while setting up a virtual wall, an invisible beam of light, confines the unit to a designated area, great for one-room cleaning. The vacuum’s advanced power system consists of a fast-charging battery, a seven-hour charger, and a power source–it supercharges the unit for up to 120 minutes of continuous cleaning. You can also purchase Roomba’s 4900 Self-Charging Drive-On Home Base as an accessory. With this, when the battery is low or it has completed a cleaning cycle, the vacuum automatically returns to the charging Home Base, so that it will be ready for the next cleaning session. The bagless unit is designed with an easy-to-empty debris bin that is three times the size of other robotic floorvacs so it doesn’t have to be emptied as often. Convenient cleaning modes include Spot mode, which sets the unit to quickly and intensely clean in a 3-foot diameter. Replaceable air filters prevent dust and dirt from escaping back into the air, and removable-by-hand brushes allow for quick, routine maintenance. A battery, charger, virtual-wall unit, and filter pack are included. The vacuum measures approximately 13 inches in diameter by 4 inches high and carries a one-year warranty.
Customer Review
I love my Roomba 410 to death.
This is one of the cheaper version, but it fits my particular situation. A small apartment, tile floor, uncluttered. Under those conditions, this thing works great. I run it once a day, and my floor is cleaner than it’s ever been. It can’t reach edges and so it leaves a tiny strip around edges, so every once in a while I run the fine-tipped suction tube of my old carpet cleaner around all the edges to get that.
The bottom line is that is now easy to have an apartment with clean floors. Put the Roomba down, it does its thing for an hour and quits, pick it up and clean it, put it back on the charger and you’re done. Cleaning requires a grand total of three minutes, so whereas I once vacuumed once a month, I now vacuum once a day.
And my floors are clean, and they STAY that way.
I have some extension cords down but it NEVER gets stuck on cords. It’ll drag the cords around but it has never gotten stuck. It’s amazing to watch this thing go into a tight spot, bounce around cleaning, and come right back out.(I’ve done some programming. The program in this thing has got to be VERY sophisticated.) It gets under beds, tables, and chest of drawers, no problem. I don’t have any rugs so can’t say anything about how it handles rugs.
I have two cats. This thing picks up cat hair by the ton. The cats get used to it in about a week.
Replacement batteries appear to be expensive, but I’ve already got a line on a place that reconditions batteries, and the present battery will probably last until the warranty expires.
For my small apartment (around 500 square feet) the seven-hour-to-charge battery is as effective as the three-hour-charge battery, because it can all gets done on one charge. Besides, as a chemist I’ve got a feeling the seven-hour battery is likely to last longer.
Initially, the first three or four days, expect this thing to pick up a ton of dirt. In fact, on first use I recommend stopping it halfway through the run and emptying it. With daily use, the normal load will drop to a little dirt and cat hair. Depending on traffic in the room(kids, you know.I have no kids.), of course.
I believe the next cheaper model does NOT have the dirt sensor. (The dirt sensor is a thing that detects it has hit a particularly dirty spot. When this happens, the Roomba will stop and pay particular attention to that spot. It’ll flash a little blue light in outraged indignation while it circles around cleaning that spot.) I recommend getting the dirt sensor (which my Roomba has). In my opinion, a Roomba is much more efficient when it can detect it has hit a dirty spot.
I already know I want one those Scooba thingies, too.
